Şanlıurfa, where Harran University is located, is one of the oldest cities in Anatolia with a history dating back eleven thousand years from today. Located on the region called the Fertile Crescent in archaeological sources, Şanlıurfa has a vast cultural accumulation since it is located at the intersection of rich Anatolian culture and Mesopotamian culture. The historical city of Harran, which gave its name to our university, is 44 km from Şanlıurfa. It is a city center located in the southeast, which has witnessed important events in history. Harran, which was also the capital of the Umayyads for a period, is mainly important because it has been an important scientific center since before Islam. Considered the university of its time, Harran School carried out important studies in the fields of astronomy, medicine, mathematics, philosophy and religion. Another feature of Şanlıurfa is that it is located at the center of the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP), one of the largest integrated regional development projects in the world. Şanlıurfa will gain significant gains once this project is fully implemented. Our University to upgrade the standards of higher education and scientific research in Turkey also aims at the same time plays an extremely important mission in the success of the GAP. Elements of this mission; pioneering social and cultural change, supporting regional development through scientific studies, and creating a platform that enables rational evaluation of regional dynamics. Our university, which aims to raise intellectual people who are progressive, creative, democrat, follower of Atatürk's principles and revolutions, who have adopted science as a principle, aims to continuously improve and develop in education, research and practice. As of today, the language of education at Harran University is Turkish. The courses students will take in each semester are divided into two groups as compulsory and elective. Students are required to take the compulsory courses of the department they are registered in. However, students who are successful in the exemption exam for the courses determined by the University Senate are exempted from those courses. Two-year associate degree program is applied in vocational schools affiliated to Harran University, and four-year undergraduate programs are applied in faculties and colleges (education period in Faculty of Medicine is six years, in Veterinary Faculty is five years). In addition, graduate and doctorate education is provided in the departments of Social Sciences, Health Sciences and Science Institutes. An academic year at Harran University consists of two semesters: fall and spring semesters. The education program in Medicine and Veterinary Faculties is carried out in annual periods. Registration of new students placed in Harran University departments and programs by ÖSYM is carried out under the supervision of the Registrar's Office between the dates announced by our University. Students in intermediate classes have to renew their registrations at the beginning of each semester within the period specified in the academic calendar. An academic advisor is assigned to each class with the recommendation of the head of the relevant department and the decision of the faculty or school board of directors. Academic advisor, taking courses until the student graduates, passing classes, exams, advises students on university-related regulations and on various issues related to education. In addition, psychological counseling services are provided to students by expert staff at our university. Students are subjected to at least two midterm exams each semester and a final exam at the end of each semester. Students can apply to higher education institutions that implement equivalent education programs and departments / programs within the institution, in accordance with the "Regulation on the Principles of Undergraduate and Undergraduate Transfer Between Higher Education Institutions", before the start of education. The student council, which was established in order to benefit from the opinions and suggestions of the students in meeting the educational and socio-cultural needs of our university, is renewed every year with the selection of the students. The President of the Student Council occasionally participates in the University Senate and other committees upon the call of the Rector and presents students' opinions and suggestions.
